What can be more satisfying than having a prediction come true? In this section I link current developments to previous posts in which I anticipated the event. I told you that:
Higher Taxes Would Prompt More Californians To Bug Out (see California In the Rearview Mirror, published December 23, 2008)
So, on February 15, 2009, letter writer Okpulot Taha of Riverside had this to say, published in the Press-Enterprise:
“With news of more tax increases in California, our family has made the decision to lay off our employees, close our small business and pack up and move to Nevada. I’m sure we won’t be the last to take such drastic steps.
“The latest plan calls for $14 billion in new taxes for California residents. Tax rates in our state are already outrageous. And now we could face a 1-cent [sic] increase in sales tax, a 2.5 percent surcharge on income taxes and a 12-cents-a-gallon rise in gas prices. Raising taxes during an economic crisis is simply shocking. Our elected leaders have proven to our family that they have not been working in our best interests. Enough. We are leaving California.”
