What’d He Say?

So there I was, minding my own business, driving home after a rough and tumble racquetball game. As always, I was listening to a vast-rightwing-conspiracy-talk-radio program, though exactly which one escapes me now. What will stay with me for quite some time was something our President said about warranties. “Your warranty will be safe, in fact safer than it’s ever been, because starting today the United States government will stand behind your warranty, ” declared President Obama. I could hardly believe my ears. What’s next, guaranteed refrigerators? He was kidding, right?

The only thing more shocking than Obama’s statement is the speed at which America has become a socialist nation. Don’t like the “S” word? Then pick any term you like, but know this: the government is in control of more than it should be. Less than 100 days in office and Obama is already firing the CEO’s of major companies, picking winners and losers among the nation’s automakers, working up government spending plans that would make FDR blush, and promising the feds will change your oil and lube your under chassis, if you catch my drift. At least Obama is out of the closet. He wants us to drive cars we don’t want, go to doctors we don’t want, and pay more for electricity than we should have to. And you will like it, comrade.

The good news for some Americans is that the government overspending is creating public sector jobs by the tens of thousands. Better yet, the feds are offering a true living wage. KNX 1070 AM radio reported just yesterday that whereas the average total compensation in the private sector is $53,000 per year, the average federal employee earns $103,000 in wages and benefits. Where do I sign up? Just like in merry ole’ England and California, as private sector jobs disappear with alarming frequency, the federal payroll is expanding like Rosie O’Donnell’s food bill. Sorry about the mental image.

Not to be outdone, moral majority spokesman Barney Frank is concocting a plan to limit “the pay of all employees — not just top executives – of companies that have received a capital investment from the U.S. government,” according to the DC Examiner. Regular pay would be determined by Uncle Barney along with bonuses. “The measure is not limited just to those firms that received the largest sums of money, or just the top 25 or 50 executives of those companies. It applies to all employees of all companies involved, for as long as the government is invested.” No wonder banks and even some states are saying “No thanks” to offers of federal bailout money. Is there a limit to the control these megalomaniacs seek? OK, silly question.

Would that Americans had said “No thanks” to candidate Obama’s offer of “Change you can believe in.” The transmutation that is blowing in the wind will hamstring American industry for the foreseeable future, transform Americans into wards of the state, and otherwise wreck what once was a nice place to live and raise a family. Worse, by overt and covert taxation, Obama and friends will make us pay for a way of life we don’t want. This must be just a nightmare. Please wake me when it’s over.

    Hi,
I am continuing on. Goodness, goodness, goodness. Pres. Obama has been in office just over two months. The “socialism” we are concerned about has been going on since FDR and the Great Depression!! I will readily admit that the “Warrantee deal” was preposterous, but how we go into this mess is just as bad.No matter what you might think about Rolling Stone Magazine, you just have to read the article by MattTaibbi (Page 66 in the April 2, 2009 issue – Issue #1075) Please, please read it. If you have questions about why we are headed where we appear to be going, you will have all the info you need to understand it. Taibbi does excellent work, and even though I am sure he is considered to be liberal by most folks, he tars everybody who needs to be tarred as you will see.
The problem, of course, is that the damage has been done. We are not going back. Too many years have gone by and too much lifestyle change has occurred to get Americans to say,”OK let’s drop all this and go back to 1925.” Won’t happen.
The loss of wealth to Americans is staggering. The money we once had has been redistributed all over the world. Much of America is rapidly becoming “third world” (see any recent article about Detroit – and that is only one example). NO child left behind just got rid of the kids who couldn’t or wouldn’t function in our schools, taxes have to go up (see California), global warming may or may not be a looking disaster, but you better choose correctly if you are going to choose at all. AND, none of this is Obama’s fault.
I do often wonder though, what would J.McCain be doing right now had he been elected.
Rough times are ahead for Americans. I hear we may be spending Yuans instead of dollars. Obama or not, the disaster is on us big time. There is much philosophy out there, but not many solutions that I have heard. If Neutron Bomb Gingrich can get himself elected maybe he will turn it all around and straighten us out. I am just not sure he is white enough!!
    Have fun,
Bro. Howard Please read Rolling Stone article.
