Willful Blindness

Lt. Col. Ralph Peters calls a spade a spade in the Fort Hood shooting:

Four days have passed since Major Nidal Malik Husan murdered 12 fellow soldiers and 1 civilian while wounding 42 more, and still America’s spineless mainstream media refuses to report the killer’s obvious motive. Article after whimpering speculation engages in unnecessary hand wringing. He must have been under tremendous stress to snap like that, we are told. His approaching deployment to Iraq was no doubt a factor. On and on goes the misdirected hypothesizing, all the while ignoring the obvious:

Hasan opened fire on American military personnel because of his religion.

Figuring out the guy’s motive is not rocket science. Fellow officers have told of his hatred for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Major Hasan stated flatly that ”Muslims should not be fighting Muslims.” We have recently learned of his connection to a radical mosque formerly frequented by the 9/11 hijackers, according to the Associated Press. Military classmates of Husan “said they complained to superiors about Maj. Husan” and his anti-American views, Senator Joe Lieberman has discovered. One of the wounded, Private Joseph Foster, told CNN Husan “stood up and yelled ‘Alahu akbar’ [God is great] and…opened fire.” How much evidence is needed to conclude that this American Army officer was also a radical Muslim terrorist?

Apparently, a lot more. CNN’s article of November 9, 2009, “Fort Hood shooting suspect conscious, talking, hospital says,” is a study in obfuscation. In short order CNN assures us that, ”Authorities have not identified a motive” in the killings. The ubiquitous warning about jumping to conclusions, stated previously by President Obama, betrays the fact that a conclusion is staring everyone in the face. (It’s comforting to know that our Commander-in-Chief has learned from his mistaken, off-the-cuff condemnation of the Cambridge police.) “Stress” is mentioned, of course.

The fact is, Major Husan was never under any combat stress. He has never been in a battle and never had to deal with the mangled bodies of casualties of war. His was a sheltered existence, cloistered away in military hospitals while talking to soldiers who had been on the front lines.

Husan received a college diploma and his medical training thanks to Uncle Sam. However, such lavish fringe benefits were not enough to earn Husan’s allegiance. His religion demanded violence against the “enemy of my friend,” and Husan’s true friends were other Muslims, known to him or not.

Islam breeds fanatical devotion that supersedes all other ties. It’s a failed, diabolical religion that has ruined the cultures that embrace it. Islam spreads death, oppression and misery wherever it goes. The sooner America comes to grips with Islam’s decadent core values, the sooner we can begin to protect ourselves from similar attacks. Dithering about possible causes for this massacre only serves to enable and embolden the next zealot.

Well then, here we are again. I do agree that in any of these sad events that seem to come “out of nowhere”, we should be a little bit careful in jumping to conclusions until all the facts and details are in. As the days go by, it does appear that Husan had connections with some Islamic people of a troublesome nature. My real issue, however, remains with people in the military who had the opportunity to remove Husan apparently several times within the past months. I continue to read articles indicating that Husan had requested out of the military due to this Islamic beliefs and his desire not to be shipped into “harms way.”
I am a little slower to leap to conclusions about Muslims because it seems to me you can look at the history of any of the world’s main religions and find bloodthirsty warmongers and inhumane treatment in all of them.
Anyway, you certainly are correct: if the facts lead to a connection between Husan and Islam and his actions at Fort Hood, then such a case should be clearly reported for what it is.
    And so it goes.
