The video shows portions of a speech given by President George W. Bush to a Joint Session of Congress on September 20, 2001.
Without question, the Presidency of George W. Bush will be a focal point of debate for decades to come. His commitment to America’s security was unwavering, and his steadfastness in the face of bitter opposition [...]

Saddam Hussein’s ouster as Iraqi’s President left an enormous power void. The rush to fill the vacuum caught American war-planners by surprise as multiplied thousands of domestic insurgents, foreign terrorists, and opportunists of all sorts saw a golden opportunity to control Iraq’s oil and the power it generates, while handing America a humiliating defeat in the bargain. The five-plus years of fighting [...]

Five Blackwater Worldwide security guards are being tried for manslaughter and other crimes as a result of a firefight on September 16, 2007 in the middle of a busy Baghdad intersection. 17 Iraqis died and a few dozen were wounded in the melee, about the only facts everyone involved agrees on. Blackwater says its employees were being [...]

“They were against it before it succeeded,” says the subhead in the Weekly Standard. The Topic? “Obama, Democrats, and the Surge.” Peter Wehner exposes the myriad attempts by Democrats, Obama first and foremost, to deny that the surge would work, and then did work. It’s a shameful compilation, one that should be considered by those [...]

President Bush’s decision to preemptively attack Iraq is proving to be an unmitigated success. Though the going has been much more difficult than anyone envisioned and the cost painfully high, winning in Iraq has tipped the war on terror in our favor. Iraq will never be a haven for terrorists or supply our enemies with weapons capable [...]

The United States and Iran are on a collision course in a contest for hegemony in Iraq and the Middle East. Both sides know the stakes could hardly be higher. American success in Iraq would thwart Iranian political, military, and nuclear ambitions and threaten the continuance of Iran’s fundamentalist Islamic regime. American failure, especially if accompanied [...]

Following testimony by General David Petraeus and U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker before two Senate Committees, President Bush today charted the nation’s war course for at least the next year. The surge troops will be coming home but further troop reductions are unlikely, meaning that about 140,000 American military personnel will remain in Iraq. All things [...]

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki “in effect declared war on Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army, saying he’d fight the militia ‘to the end’ and never negotiate,” according to McClatchy Newspapers’ Leila Fadel. Maliki’s message was clear, saying “the government does not negotiate with a gang; the government does not sign memorandums of understanding with outlaws.” [...]

The headlines appeared in peculiar juxtaposition. “Pelosi calls Iraq a failure…surge was a bust” was immediately followed by “al Qaeda in Iraq in ‘total collapse’ say seized letters.” You’ve got to love Matt Drudge’s sense of irony.
Of course, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was not the first to declare defeat in Iraq, a distinction belonging to Senate Majority [...]

In a startling turnaround, the Senate Majority Leader hinted even he has noticed a positive change in Iraq. Interviewed on Jim Lehrer’s Newsmaker program December 21, Democratic Senator Harry Reid grudgingly acknowledged “the surge certainly hasn’t hurt. It’s helped. I recognize that.” Faint praise to be sure, but nonetheless quite an adjustment from his declaration eight months ago ”that this war is [...]
